Digital Antennas

So if you are going to cut the cord you need to invest in a digital antenna.  I got my first one for the bedroom TV - it's where I watch the morning news and I was missing Fox 29 in the morning.   It's a flat leaf design that adheres to the window quite nicely (1by one) and was a snap to install.  Once it was hooked up I did a channel search and then there was live TV once again!   I get NBC, CBS, FOX, and about a dozen more.  Two are international type news, one Spanish, two with very old TV shows and moves.   I can get the CW and channel 17 if I move the antenna, but there isn't anything on that would require such a move!   ABC is noticeably missing and it really SHOULD be able to come thru, but having read other blogs and investigating antennas in general I find the local ABC station is missing for most people.  If I were to invest in a larger antenna and put it outside it would probably pick up all the stations I don't get at the moment, but I'm happy with my present set up.   Hulu is just like having a DVR anyway.

I got a second antenna for the TV in the living room.  Its an RCA flat digital and once again set up quickly and once the scan was done I was watching live TV again.  Nice to watch the news with my feet up and a cup of tea!

Now later I can watch the evening news with a proper glass of wine!

Cable Free

Well, it's been a month that I have officially cut the cord with Comcast and I couldn't be happier.  To be honest - not much has changed.  I still see all my prime time shows the same as before, except this time I am not paying for a DVR for the privilege of being able to watch said show days later.  I can watch just about any show the next day - commercial free- with Hulu for $11.99 a month.

I invested in a  ROKU which allows me to stream HULU as well as a plethora of other channels.  In addition to HULU,  I signed up for SLING TV for another $20 a month.  This is TV in real time as well as VOD.  I am able to keep up with the Walking Dead on AMC, which is one of those stations that doesn't allow their shows to stream on HULU.   This past weekend I also had HBO for free, and Hulu is offering SHO shows as well.   Add the cost of my Verizon Internet (which enables me to stream) and I am still paying $100 less a month.

The only Downside is missing my FX and BBC America shows.  They stream a whole season behind so I have some waiting to do.   Bravo is also another station that only lets them steam earlier episodes as well as TLC.  I am hoping somewhere down the line the stations that aren't streaming will join the ever growing list of stations that DO stream!    Once  more people catch on they will be cutting the cord to cable as well.

Time Still Flies......

Time flies when you are having fun!  I can't believe so much time has passed since I sat down to vent (blog).  And to actually have someone ask WHY I haven't been blogging.  Seriously?  What can be said on a daily basis that anyone wants to hear about?  So you really want to know what I have been up to?

I am working two part-time jobs in the "Customer Service" field.  One in the mornings is basically phone work and did result in an interesting blog (see Anger Management).  I have since found yet another customer service job in the Pharmacy department of a Drug store chain.  Yes - Pharmacy - I handle DRUGS.  And wonder of wonders - I don't have NEED of any!

Pharmacy customers aren't much different than the people who phone in with problems with their machines. The only difference is they are "Sick". Most of the regular customers are really nice, but like everything else, there are those entitled snobs that think because you are there to "serve" them they can be condescending, and rude.

Customers aside, working in the pharmacy has been interesting.  I have learned more about drugs than I ever though I would and thank God every day I continue to be healthy and in need of nothing more than some allergy meds.  I see people go out of here every day with bags of drugs and my heart breaks because they pay ridiculous amounts for the meds that they require to stay alive. And then there are those that come in and pay nothing.   I still can't figure out how that is right.    I will save that bitch-fest for another blog.

What is a Mother?

Websters dictionary has the following definition of the word Mother:

1 a female parent
b (1): a woman in authority; specifically : the superior of a religious community of women
(2): an old or elderly woman
2: source, origin mother of invention>3: maternal tenderness or affection4[short for motherf***er] sometimes vulgar : motherf***er
.......and those that know me will agree I fit all of those descriptions. But if we just dwell on #1 - female parent - then I guess I am best described as the dreaded terrible WORKING Mother. The Mother who sent her baby off to daycare before it was the fashionable thing to do. The Mother of the Poor little Latch-key child. Other Mothers stayed home all day and.......and well they did whatever they did all day while their child was at school. I suppose those Mothers were home baking and sewing wonderful clothes for them to wear and redecorating their homes with hand-made creations that would make Martha Stewart green with envy.
Did working make me less of a good Mother than those stay-at-home super Moms? Not a chance in hell people. I'll stack my ability up against any other Mother. I worked my butt off to give my daughter every opportunity that came her way. She had a chance to try anything and yes I loved that we spoiled her. So how is it she turned out so well? You can spoil a child silly without making them SPOILED. They can be the center of your universe without having them grow up thinking the universe revolves around them.
It depends on how much of a Mother you really are.  I originally posted this in 2008 - but it is still true.....
